- 1924 A. Duie Pyle is founded by Mr. Alexander Duie Pyle
of Coatesville, PA. The cornerstones of the transportation and
warehousing operation are laid.
- 1930’s A. Duie Pyle weathers "The Great
Depression."
- 1932 Truck transportation is regulated by Pennsylvania
Public Utilities Commission. A. Duie Pyle is authorized
"Grandfather Rights."
- 1935 The Interstate Commerce Commission begins to
regulate common carriers. Again A. Duie Pyle is authorized
"Grandfather Rights."
- 1941-1945 A. Duie Pyle moves urgent war materials,
including materials used in the "Manhattan Project"
which produced the Atomic Bomb and ended the war.
- 1950’s A. Duie Pyle becomes one of the first carriers
to install a commercial two way radio system.
- 1959 Company headquarters moved from Coatesville to West
Chester, PA.
- 1960 Household goods warehouse built at Garfield and
Washington Streets in West Chester, PA.
- 1969 Distribution warehouse facility built at Garfield
and Lincoln Streets in West Chester, PA.
- 1971 Additional warehouse facilities built at West
Chester, PA. Total storage area expanded to 165,000 square feet.
- 1975 New office building, garage and expanded dock space
completed at West Chester.
- 1977 New warehouse built in Parkesburg, PA, giving the
warehouse operation over 500,000 square feet of space and rail
access.
- 1979 A. Duie Pyle work force decertifies
their collective bargaining agent.
- 1980 The motor carrier industry is
"deregulated."
- 1981 Incentive compensation (ADPII) becomes a reality for
everyone at Duie Pyle.
- 1986 Equipment leasing company established.
- 1987 Ground is broken for a new 100 door terminal, new
garage and office to better service our customers.
- 1988 Open House attended by over 250 vendors and
customers highlight the opening of the new terminal facility at
Westtown Road. Recognition from Avery International, E. I. DuPont,
3M, Reynolds Metals, and York International for QUALITY
ACHIEVEMENT. Formalized Quality Process program initiated.
- 1989 Quality Recognition awarded to A. Duie Pyle, Inc. by
Nalco Chemical, 3M, American Chemical and Distribution Magazine.
Truckload Division and Leasing Company reorganized.
- 1990 Expanded service areas in Pennsylvania, New Jersey,
Delaware and Maryland. Received Quality recognition from PPG, 3M
and Distribution Magazine.
- 1991 Assimilated Special Commodities Division and General
Commodity TL groups. Formalized the National Account Program.
Expanded the Quality Process to include the Warehouse Division.
Received Quality recognition once again from 3M, PPG and
Distribution Magazine.
- 1992 Expanded the flatbed truckload operation into
western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio and northern West Virginia
through terminals located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Expanded
the van truckload operation throughout the Northeast. Selected as
PPG’s partner in quality.
- 1994 Opened a Specialized Service Center in Edison, NJ to
meet the requirements of select customers into the northern New
Jersey and New York City areas.
Expanded LTL service into Virginia and West Virginia.
Expanded Warehousing and Distribution capabilities by
purchasing a 250,000 square foot warehouse on 25 acres in King of
Prussia, Pennsylvania.
Received Quality recognition once again from Distribution
Magazine.
Undertook the first formal third party assignment with Conrail
Corporation.
- 1995 Formalized A. Duie Pyle Logistics (ADPL) and began
operations as a third party logistics provider
Expanded LTL service into the Upper Susquehanna Valley of
Pennsylvania.
Received Quality recognition once again from Distribution
Magazine.
- 1996 Expanded LTL service to encompass the entire state
of Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Pyle becomes one of the few carrier's to employ satellite
communications technology throughout their entire LTL fleet.
Investment in Document Imaging technology provides customers with
nearly instantaneous response to inquiries.
Received Quality recognition once again from Distribution
Magazine as well as Avery Fasson, Ashland Chemical, The Scotts
Company and PPG.
Selected as Best Eastern Carrier by Cahners Research.
- 1997 Expanded express LTL service to Connecticut,
Massachusetts, and Rhode Island as well as parts of Maine, New
Hampshire and Vermont.
Received Quality recognition once again from Distribution
Magazine.
Received Appleton Paper's Eagle Club award for On-time
performance for 12 consecutive months.
Expanded LTL service into New York State to provide
comprehensive service throughout the entire Northeast.
- 1998 Expanded LTL Service
to the Canadian Provinces of Ontario and Quebec.
- Received Appleton Paper's Eagle Club award for On-time
performance for 12 consecutive months.
